Samsung 990 Evo SSD on a transparent background

Samsung 990 EVO (2TB)

$130 $240 Save $110

This 2TB Samsung 990 EVO is on sale at its lowest price we’ve seen. For $130, you’ll pay around $0.07 per GB for storing an OS, games, media, and everything else with speeds up to 5,000 MB/s.

Storage can be rather expensive, especially when shopping around for an NVMe SSD. Samsung’s 990 EVO series of drives strikes a good balance between performance and price (now that it costs less than the MSRP). This 2TB version costs $130, which works out to around $0.07 per GB. That’s considerably more than a mechanical drive, but you’re getting transfer speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s. This is more than enough for loading an OS, software, and in-game content. I may have given it a scathing review, but that was primarily due to the high launch MSRP.

The MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFi is an excellent motherboard for 12th-14th-gen Intel CPUs. I’m talking about an LGA 1700 socket, support for DDR5 RAM, PCIe 5.0 for GPUs and SSDs, 2.5Gb LAN, USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, and Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 for wirelessly hooking up hardware. It’s not the cheapest LGA 1700 motherboard around at $280, but it’s worth it should you be planning to build a capable gaming PC with pricey storage, graphics, and processing power.

AMD Ryzen 5000 7 APU

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G

$160 $359 Save $199

Here’s a solid deal on a previous-gen AMD processor. It’s an AM4 chip, requiring an AM4 motherboard and DDR4 RAM, but at just $160 this is one deal that’s difficult to pass up on.

AMD’s Ryzen 5 5700G is an older processor but it’s still worth considering for low-power system builds or instances where you’d want to use integrated graphics. Unlike the substandard GPUs included with chips that are present for video output, you can play games on the Ryzen 5 5700G. The results won’t be anywhere near discrete GPUs, but it’s impressive nonetheless. Should you eventually grab a GPU, this part can be swapped out for a more powerful AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is also on sale for $174.

FAQ

What makes a good Prime Day deal?

We’d recommend using price tracker tools and websites such as CamelCamelCamel as these will show the price history of the product in question. We’ve seen in the past vendors artificially inflating the price before Prime Day, only to reduce it back to a normal level and call it a “deal” when it’s actually anything but. You can rest assured we only cover actual deals here on XDA.

Do you need to be a Prime member to save on Prime Day?

Prime Day discounts require you to have an active Amazon Prime subscription. Without a Prime membership, you may still come across generic deals on Amazon, but these come and go all year round. There are also exclusive deals you get access to ahead of the big event, although there aren’t any for Apple products right now. You can also try out Prime though, with a 30-day free trial parallel with Big Deals Day.
