As Sundar Pichai laughed about Google’s obsession with the word “AI” and how many times it was used during the Google I/O 2024 keynote, it occurred to me that it wasn’t “AI” I was interested in as much as “Gemini.”
The whole two hours felt like a never-ending list of Gemini this and Gemini that, with Gemini Advanced, Pro, Flash, Live, Gems, and many other versions or iterations or sub-implementations of Gemini being mentioned left, right, and center. Oh, it was a doozy, even for someone like me, who is more or less on top of Google’s confusing AI plans.

So, how many times did Google actually say “Gemini” in those two hours?
Per the YouTube transcript text file and the answer is 162 .
Adding 1 gem and 7 additional gems, 170 Geminis were mentioned in I/O 24. This is an impressive rate of 1.5 Gemini per minute. You could do it faster if you just repeat the words endlessly, but you’ll get tired before the 113 minutes are up.
According to Google, Gemini and Gems were performing a total of 170 I/Os, or 1.5 I/Os per minute.
Other Interesting Trivia Since I’m such a nerd, I noticed a pattern and did a count:
AI is actually mentioned a total of 122 times, two of which include the word “artificial intelligence.” was fully mentioned. Adding “AGI” makes it 123.
Search was mentioned 87 times – perhaps this is in anticipation of OpenAI’s search push that didn’t materialize yesterday? Or is Google telling investors that search will continue to be its core product? It reminds me that.
The company name Google was mentioned only 68 times.
Android took an even bigger step back with just 21 mentions. This was the first Google I/O keynote in over a decade in which Android played such a minor role.
The word “developer” was said to him 21 times in his 113 minutes at the developer conference. However, everyone felt that it was too developer-centered, right? But it happens once every 5 minutes and 20 seconds, so maybe it’s just my imagination? However, this value increases by a factor of 32 if we include other changes from ‘development’ to ‘development’ to ‘development’.
But let’s focus on the heart of the matter. How many times has Google actually said that a new feature or product will be available soon or sooner rather than later? Here are the details. “
Soon” is Google’s favorite promise, and it’s said nine times.
Next year, the following vague schedule promise received 5 mentions.
Later that year, pushing the issue further, it was said five times.
“Available today” or “Available now” was only said 5 times in total.
There were 13 mentions of Launch and 18 mentions of the word Available across all formats. The big question is when, where, for whom, and to what plan. Oh, that was too confusing.
