Multiple people can now track the same AirTag

An Apple AirTag is arguably the best Find My tracker for iPhone users, featuring many offerings and a wide coverage range. One of the handy features available on iPadOS and iOS 17 is the ability to share an AirTag with another user who also has a vested interest in keeping track of it. It allows up to six people to track the same AirTag from their iDevices simultaneously. To share an AirTag on your iPhone or iPad, follow the easy steps listed below.

5 creative ways to use an AirTag

There are many use cases for Apple’s tracker, and here are some of the most creative ones

Sharing an AirTag from iOS or iPadOS is quite simple

1. Launch the Find My app on your iDevice.

2. Navigate to the Items tab and tap on the AirTag you’d like to share.

3. Tap the Add Person button.

4. Tap the Continue button.

5. Type a contact’s name and hit the Send button after selecting one. Now you and the new user can both view the AirTag’s location, as long as they also have iOS 17 on their device.

How to stop sharing an AirTag

If you change your mind, you can always stop sharing an AirTag

To revoke someone’s access:

1. Tap the person’s name in the Share This AirTag section.

2. Click the Remove button.

3. Confirm by tapping the Stop Sharing button.

4. The other user will no longer be able to view the AirTag’s location in the Find My app. If that particular AirTag is still with them, they’ll get a notification saying AirTag Found Moving With Youwhich is one way someone could learn they’re being tracked.

Only the original owner who paired the AirTag with their Apple ID can remove sharing permissions. People you grant access to cannot revoke permissions themselves.

Why AirTag sharing may be essential

As our steps reveal, sharing an AirTag with someone on iOS or iPadOS is extremely easy. It can be ideal for those who share the same concern about an item. You may want to leave an AirTag in your family pet’s collar, or a shared item like a TV remote or key chain. Before iOS and iPadOS 17, families sharing an AirTag would only get alerts if the AirTag was separated from its owner. There was no real way to see that AirTags location without asking the owner to manually check.

By sharing an AirTag, those living in the same household can finally mute unwanted tracking notifications caused by a tagged item that several members tend to carry around. Keep in mind that you can only share your AirTag with up to five other users at a time, not with a larger group.
