Pixel Fold 2 Gets New Name, Branding

A leak suggests that Google’s upcoming foldable flagship may be named “Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” aligning it with the Pixel 9 series lineup and potentially indicating a fall release. By integrating the foldable device into the Pixel 9 series, Google aims to clarify its position within the product portfolio. The supposed name change could align the release cadence of the foldable with Google’s traditional Pixel smartphones.

The phone previously referred to as the Pixel Fold 2 may now be marketed as the “Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” joining the Pixel 9 series lineup. The potential inclusion of the foldable device in the Pixel 9 series could lead to an official unveiling in the fall, delaying its release compared to the original Pixel Fold. The rumored lineup now includes the base Pixel 9, a smaller Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Pixel 9 Fold

While the name “Pixel 9 Pro Fold” might seem cumbersome, integrating the foldable device into the Pixel 9 series alongside Google’s traditional smartphones can help clarify its positioning within the device hierarchy. Speculations suggest that the second-gen foldable Pixel may share similar internals and camera performance with the Pixel 9 series, justifying its inclusion in the same hardware generation. The potential fall release of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold alongside other devices in the series aligns with rumors about its features and chipset.

The new name hints at a possible release of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in the fall, in conjunction with the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The foldable device is said to be powered by Google’s upcoming Tensor G4 chipset, similar to the rest of the Pixel 9 series, justifying its formal inclusion in this hardware generation. Despite the potentially awkward name, the move to integrate the foldable device into the Pixel 9 lineup aims to provide clarity and coherence within Google’s product offerings.
