  • OpenAI’s DALL-E is getting two new features today.
  • The AI image generator now comes with editing tools.
  • Users will also be presented with preset-like style suggestions.

Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out just the right prompt to get OpenAI’s DALL-E to create the exact image you’re looking for. But the ChatGPT creator’s AI image generator is getting new editing-focused features that should help on that front.

OpenAI has announced that DALL-E is getting a set of new features today. The first introduces editing tools, which are available on both web and mobile when using DALL-E in ChatGPT. An editing icon will appear when the user clicks on the generated image. They’ll then be able to highlight an area in the image and provide a prompt. In the example in the tweet below shows the user highlighting a poodle’s ears and prompting DALL-E to add bows.

OpenAI’s DALL·E continues to evolve, and its latest feature is bound to delight artists and creators. The newly introduced DALL·E editor interface allows seamless editing of the images you generate with DALL·E. Here’s how it works:

  1. Accessing the DALL·E Editor Interface:
    • Click on an image generated by DALL·E to access the editor interface.
    • The interface provides a range of options for highlighting parts of the image you want to update.
  2. Editing with Selection Tool:
    • Use the selection tool to choose an area of the image you wish to edit.
    • You can adjust the size of the selection tool to better highlight the desired area.
    • Undo, redo, or start over entirely using the provided buttons.
  3. Adding, Removing, and Updating:
    • Add elements to your image by describing your changes in chat. For instance, you can say “Add cherry blossoms” to enhance the image.
    • Remove objects by highlighting them and using prompts like “remove birds.”
    • Update specific characteristics of objects. For example, highlight a kitten’s face and prompt “change the cat’s expression to happy.”
  4. Saving Your Creation:
    • Once satisfied, click the Save button to preserve your edited image.
  5. Editing Conversationally:
    • You can also provide prompts in the conversation panel without using the selection tool.
    • For instance, you can say “make it black and white” to apply that edit to the image.

DALL·E’s creative possibilities just got even more exciting!
